Chökhor Düchen

The First Turning of the Wheel

Chökhor Düchen (the 14th day of 6th lunar month, this year - Saturday, July 25th): the "First Turning of the Wheel of Dharma" (first teaching) is celebrated. For the first seven weeks after his Enlightenment, Buddha did not teach, initially thinking that there was no way to transmit what he had attained to others. Encouraged by Indra and Brahma, he then gave his first teachings at Sarnath on the Four Noble Truths. This is a good day to practice because it is said that all virtue (and non-virtue as well, unfortunately) is multiplied 10 million times this day!

Even if you're not able to add your Mind or voice to the sangha for this auspicious practice day, it's still a wonderful opportunity for reflection on the Four Noble Truths or for a rededication to the relief of the suffering of all sentient beings. A wonderful opportunity to clear obstacles from the spontaneous generation of Compassion from Wisdom.
